Colin G. Pennington (PhD) is an Assistant Professor of Sport and Exercise Studies at Randolph College in Lynchburg, VA, USA. Pennington has academic experience coordinating H/PETE programing and sport pedagogy student-teaching, as well as administrative and leadership responsibilities at former appointments in Iowa, Texas, and New York. Pennington is an active peer-reviewer for numerous journals, held officer positions on several kinesiology/sport pedagogy professional organizations, consultant for K-12 physical education and health and wellness initiatives, and spearheaded initiatives aimed at improving pedagogy and scholarship for university faculty. Pennington holds a Bachelor’s degree in Pedagogical Kinesiology with a sub-concentration in Biology and a Master’s degree in Exercise Science with a sub-concentration in Strength and Conditioning from the University of Texas at Arlington in Arlington, Texas, USA. Pennington also holds a Doctoral degree in Sport Pedagogy with a sub-concentration in Health Promotion from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA. Pennington is a former K-12 athletics coach and teacher, a former certified personal trainer, and physical therapy technician. His interests and research focus on teacher socialization, physical education teacher training, character development programs within physical education and sport, advancing movement opportunities for individuals with disabilities, and health and wellness. Presently, Pennington works with prospective kinesiologists and Exercise and Sport Studies majors and carries out research on physical education teacher effectiveness and other health-related applications of the kinesiology discipline. Pennington's teaching background includes such courses as Principles & Foundations in Physical Education, Curriculum and Methods of Physical Education, Adapted Sport and Exercise, School Health, Anatomical Kinesiology, Physiology of Exercise, Strength and Conditioning, Philosophy of Coaching Leadership, among several others.
